About GNIAR

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS® (GNIAR) was formed in January of 1995 through a merger of the Northwest Indiana, Duneland, South Lake County and Jasper-Newton Associations of REALTORS®, which were originally chartered in 1921. It represents over 2,100 members in approximately 475 offices in the Indiana counties of Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton. GNIAR also serves several hundred members from La Porte County, IN, Cook County, IL and Southwestern Michigan by providing MLS Services to Participating offices.

Membership is composed primarily of real estate salespersons, real estate brokers and appraisers. There are also several hundred Affiliate members composed of banks, mortgage companies, title companies, inspection firms and other businesses that are involved in real estate transactions. Members represent residential, commercial, industrial, appraisal, property management, and development real estate activities.

Members of GNIAR are also affiliated with the 20,000 member Indiana Association of REALTORS®, located in Indianapolis and the 1.3 million member National Association of REALTORS® with offices in Chicago and Washington.

The purpose of GNIAR is to be the visible voice for real estate interests in Northwest Indiana. GNIAR represents real estate interests in governmental affairs including the operation of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC). It also promotes a high level of professionalism through its continuing education programs. Arbitration of commission disputes between member firms. Resolution of public ethical complaints and complaints regarding Northwest Indiana real estate transactions through the Better Business Bureau Alternative Dispute Resolution Program are also a part of the organization's ongoing functions. In addition, the association provides technological products and services to its members.  The public benefits by the availability of property data of active residential listings on three public Internet homes advertising services: The Times, Chicago Tribune and Realtor.com.
